How to Get Rich or Think Like a Billionaire? Telling the 2004 pair apart

Shelf note ·

These two are easy to mix up. Random House published both in 2004, about seven months apart. Both are credited to Donald J. Trump with Meredith McIver, and both are first-person advice books. The difference is in what the publisher says each one covers. This note sets out the credit lines, the editions, and that difference.

If you only want one

The choice comes down to topic, not quality. We don’t rank them. If you want workplace and management material, the publisher’s description of How to Get Rich is the closer match. If you want real estate, personal money and lifestyle spending, the description of Think Like a Billionaire is the closer match. Both are first-person accounts by their credited authors, not independent business guides. We list them so you can identify them, not as career or investment advice.

Credit lines you can copy

Donald J. Trump with Meredith McIver, Trump: How to Get Rich (Random House, 2004).

Donald J. Trump with Meredith McIver, Trump: Think Like a Billionaire: Everything You Need to Know About Success, Real Estate, and Life (Random House, 2004).

Both titles begin with “Trump:” on the cover and in catalogs, which is one reason they get confused. The Library of Congress record for the How to Get Rich hardcover names McIver as a contributor. The publisher’s current pages print “Donald J. Trump and Meredith McIver,” and the page addresses read “with Meredith McIver.” Either way, her name belongs in the credit line. Both Amazon links below go to paperback listings that credit her.

Both Amazon links below go to the Ballantine mass market paperbacks. The paperback of Think Like a Billionaire came out in 2005, so a 2005 date on a copy does not mean a different book. If you cite pages, use the edition in your hand: the How to Get Rich hardcover and paperback paginate differently.
